CDS Exams


CDS stands for COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES. These examinations are conducted by UPSE two times in a year i.e, in February & in November. These examination are conducted for the candidates who are willing to take admission in Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers Training Academy (OTA).

Eligibility: For IMA and OTA - Candidate need a degree of a recognized university.
For INA- degree in engineering is required.
For AFA- Candidate should have a recognized degree and Physics & Mathematics at 10+2 level.
NOTE: Women candidates are eligible for OTA only.

• English
• General knowledge
• Elementary mathematics


  • English:
    Questions in English are from Synonyms, Antonyms, Reading Comprehension, Para Jumbles, Error Spotting, Jumbled Sentences, Sentence Correction and Fill in the Blanks. This section is basically to test a candidates knowledge of English language.
  • General Knowledge:
    General Knowledge including knowledge of current events, experience in scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper also includes questions from History of India and Geography also
  • Elementary Mathematics:
    Arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, mensuration, statistics, etc.
